Privacy statement

In accordance with the Guidelines for Federal and ACT Government Websites issued by the Australian Privacy Commissioner, the Department of Treasury provides the following privacy statements.

SBR blog

The SBR blog is managed by Treasury.  All personal information used and collected as part of the SBR blog is subject to the Privacy Act 1988. This Act requires that Treasury and its service providers comply with the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs), which set out how Australian Government agencies collect, use, store and disclose personal information.  Treasury may utilise the assistance of its service providers for support in archiving the information (i.e. blog comments). 

Your (self-nominated) username will be used to distinguish you from other users in the SBR blog comments. The personal information you provide will enable you to register and log into the SBR blog and submit comments. Your personal information will not otherwise by used or disclosed except in accordance with the IPPs. 

Treasury may contact you via the registered email address you provide regarding matters related to your registration and/or use of the SBR blog.

Statistical information

We analyse non-identifiable website traffic data to improve our services. We only use session-based cookies for the single sign-on service and to gather anonymous website usage data to help us improve the structure and functionality of the SBR blog and govspace. You can change your web browser settings to reject cookies or to prompt you each time a website wishes to add a cookie to your browser. In spite of our efforts to reduce the impact, some functionality on the blog may be affected by this.

No attempt will be made to identify users of their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise its authority to inspect the Internet Service Providers log files.

Blog administration

When you visit the SBR blog – Treasury or its service providers will record, for SBR blog operational purposes:
• a record of your server address;
• the top level domain name (for example, .com, .gov, .au);
• the date and time of your visit to the site;
• the pages accessed and documents downloaded;
• the previous site visited; and
• the type of browser that you use.

We will also keep a record of:
• all comments we publish;
• all comments we reject and associated records, including the advisory email notice that the moderator sends to those who submit comments that breach this blogs terms and conditions;
• your acceptance of the SBR blog terms and conditions and your linked registered email address; and
• any other information you send us that we are required to keep in order to comply with the Treasury’s  records keeping requirements.

Contacting Treasury by email *

We will record your email address if you send us an email.  It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it (i.e. it will not be added to a mailing list unless you ask us to do so) and we will not disclose your email address without your consent. 

 Subscription Service *

We offer a subscription email service for SBR blog users who wish to receive notification of the latest copies of press releases and other major publications released by the Treasury or Treasury portfolio ministers.  When you subscribe to this service your email address is added to a database. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose, and it will not be disclosed, without your consent.
